Bachman-Turner Overdrive New braunfels Concert reviews
It could have been great...
"Last night on stage, Bachman-Turner Overdrive said, 'This is my best tour ever' - - really? Or is that some sort of positive thinking exercise straight from 'The Secret' - think it, say it out loud, and it will be true. He is an amazing song writer, a world-class guitarist, he has a great band behind him, but I just don't know. Something was not right last night."
"The opening act, TRIAN was all that you could hope for from the headliner's perspective. Great singer, drew the crowd in, got them all amped up. Then John came out on fire, crowd goes wild, song ends - short break while I change guitars and do some sort of on-stage tuning process. That went on all night. He did not string together 2 songs ever! How is the crowd supposed to get into that?"
"Great artist/showman know how to bring the crowd with them, through the entire show, with ups and downs - NOT starts and stops. Change a guitar on the fly just once (please) It seemed like we were at his private recording session - and he had to make a point that he was the only one in the room who could set up his guitars correctly."
"So the crowd gets excited, and then sits for 1 minute or two. Guess what - you end up losing momentum. And when you do sense that you've lost some of the crowd, don't berate them... 'Hey what are you 80, you gotta get home?' he said when the crowd started to leave at the 'pretend' end of the show (pre-encore). 'You're going to miss Tom Petty - he's coming out it will be great,' he follows that with 'I'm going to take a pee, I'll be back.'"
"I've never seen a show end in such silence. I was thinking they might just blow off the encore and go home. Why would they come out the crowd was quiet, but that’s how he left us. To be honest I wanted to leave at that point, but there were still so many hit songs he didn't do that I didn't want to miss possibly the best part of the show, my mistake."
"He came back and did the shortest encore I've ever experienced. Believe it or not, I still think it was a very good show - the music was great, his guitar solos were excellent, just be prepared for lots of breaks, and lots of new age rambling from our host - 'We're all here because we're not dick heads, dick heads don't come to John Mayer concerts and we are here so...' (Thanks John good to know). AND just don't expect the John Mayer that toured with Sheryl Crow a number of years ago... (In my opinion) that was his best tour to date. This one needs some work."
